Faith and Patience
Updated: Sep 10, 2020
Hebrews 6:11-12: And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Don’t you love when God sends you little reminders of His Word? I received not one, but two of them just this morning.
The first was a wonderful email that I received concerning a refund that I had applied for, way back in March. I had to go through many hoops during the process, and it was frustrating during every step. Honestly, I completely forgot about it, as I did not think it was ever coming. Well, here we are, 5 months later, and I receive notification that it has been approved and is on the way.
Soon after that, I venture out into my kitchen, and there, on my kitchen table is a package. I love receiving packages with my name on them, don’t you? Well, I opened it up, and it was something that I purchased, yet again, 5 months ago (March must have been an interesting month!) Again, I completely forgot about it, and didn’t think that I was ever going to receive it, but just because I forgot about it didn’t mean that it wasn’t still coming. It just took time, but it finally arrived.
Do you see where I am going with this?
We may have those things in our lives that we are first really excited about, or we first have faith about receiving, in the beginning. But, over time, for whatever reason, those things may be delayed, and may seem like they are never going to happen, or arrive. After a while, we may give up even thinking that they are going to come. But, as God’s Word says, He is faithful, even when we are faithless. I love today’s Scripture that says that it doesn’t just take faith to inherit our promises, but patience as well. The two go hand in hand.
With my two little examples today, I definitely am a witness. And you know what? The fact that I was not expecting them make them all the more special. Like a wonderful surprise…I love it!
My encouragement to you is to do an even better imitation than me of those who inherited their promises in the Bible…remain in faith, walk in patience, and watch your promises to come to pass.
