Someday is Today!
Philippians 3:13-14: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Happy New Year!
In thinking over what to write this week, my thoughts turned to asking the Lord what we should be expecting over the coming year. You know, we've all heard the themes of the past few years, derived from the ending numbers: 2007 being the year of completion/perfection/jubilee, 2008 being the year of new beginnings. I have heard it said that 2009 will be the year of divine completion, or judgement. I have also heard one particular phrase concerning the upcoming year, that "all will be fine in 2009!"
Now, I do hope and pray that all will be fine, but I seem to be having difficulty with following a particular theme for this year. For me this year will simply be about following after the Lord with all of my heart. It will be about COMMITMENT and OBEDIENCE and FAITHFULNESS to my relationship with the Lord. It will be about showing God's LOVE and COMPASSION and giving HOPE and ENCOURAGEMENT to those whose world is without hope. This year will be about GROWING in my relationship with Christ and being all that He would want me to be. For so long, my thoughts were about what I would do "someday." "Someday" God would use me in a particular way. "Someday" I would get beyond my fears and step out into what I believe God is calling me to do. "Someday" I would FINALLY be who God REALLY wanted me to be. But, you know what I have been learning, SOMEDAY IS TODAY. We are NOT promised a tomorrow. Those of us who have lost a loved one this PAST year know how PRECIOUS time is! It may be a cliche', but God gave us TODAY as a GIFT; that is why it is called the PRESENT. Ministry exists all around us RIGHT NOW. God can use ANY of us RIGHT WHERE WE ARE, in our "everyday lives." NOT "someday" but TODAY!
So, again, I say "Happy New Year" to each one of you. May this be a year that each of us walk in the FULLNESS of who God has created us to be: not when we get ready, not if something happens to or for us first, but NOW. May we start TODAY, and continue EVERYDAY.
Lord willing, may we be able to reach December 31, 2009 and look back over a year that has shown MATURITY and GROWTH in us. Step by step, day by day, may we continue to REACH FOR and PRESS TOWARD our HIGH CALLING in our Lord.
Remember, SOMEDAY is TODAY!
