"And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door..."
Matthew 28:2a
Roll Away The Rock Denis Brent Rees
They surely knew whom they had just crucified
this was Lord Jesus about whom many had lied
They knew exactly what the prophecy had said
as He died they sought ways to keep Him dead
The rock hewn tomb with a boulder as a door
sealed and guarded by sentries from the corps
The Marys came to the tomb in a somber tone
each wondering how they'd move such a stone
God had no worries about where sentries stood
He said His Son would rise and He made good
The seal was broken and the rock rolled away
how it happened not even one sentry could say
A rock and then a roll and prophecy was fulfilled
Christ was resurrected just as His Father willed
Slain by those who would not listen nor bother
He rose from the tomb at the will of His Father
Death had lost its sting as He gained new life
Jesus paid the price through torture and strife
Without Jesus everyone's future would be dim
with Jesus we live abundantly thanks to Him
Now one question lingers and we must respond
will we continue in the old ways we're so fond
Or will we bury things hindering our daily walk
asking You Father to free us by rolling the rock
In The Name of Christ Jesus
Amen!
