Proverbs 31:28: Her children stand and bless her... By Janine Scott-Lowe, MD.
Today's message is dedicated to my mother, the late Anita Louise (Gaynor) Scott.
When I think of my mom, my mind immediately goes to the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31.
Let me share with you a few characteristics of my multi-faceted mom: 1. She was a good wife, worth MORE than precious gems. (v10) 2. Her husband trusted her and she richly satisfied his needs. She didn't hinder him, but HELPED him all of her life. (v11-12) 3. She watched for bargains. (v17) My mom could find a bargain even if one did not initially exist...SMILE! 4. She generously gave to anyone in need. (v20) And she FED EVERYONE to the OVERFLOW as well (smile!) 5. She was a woman of STRENGTH and DIGNITY. (v25) 6. When she spoke, her words were WISE and KINDNESS ruled everything she said. (v26) 7. She WATCHED CAREFULLY all that went on throughout her household and was NEVER lazy. (v27) 8. Her husband PRAISES her with these words..."there are many fine women in the world, but MY MOM was the BEST of them all." (v29)
I just wanted to introduce you to just a FEW special qualities of my mom. I TRULY MISS her, and I only hope that I am and will be HALF the mom and wife that she was to my brothers, father, and I. I LOVE YOU MOM!
To all moms reading this message, know that "charm can be deceptive and beauty doesn't last, but a woman who FEARS and REVERENCES GOD SHALL BE GREATLY PRAISED." (v30)
God Bless, and Happy Mother's Day!
