Broken Hearted
Isaiah 61:1: The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.
Psalm 51:17: The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
Psalm 34:18: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Have you ever experienced a broken heart? Has your heart ever felt like it has been crushed into a million pieces? Have you laid in your bed at night, crying out to the Lord because of your pain? Have you gone through the day trying to hold back the tears in your eyes?
If you have, you have been brokenhearted. In studying this out, the Lord gave it to me this way. Look at the word itself. Broken-Heart.
To be broken means to be fractured or shattered. It reminds me of the story in the Bible when Mary broke her Alabaster Box for Jesus. This was a sign of her love and worship towards Him. Out of this brokenness (hers and the box's) flowed a fragrance of worship and love. Many times when we are broken, we have a choice in how it will subsequently cause us to be. Will we allow that breaking circumstance to cause us to worship our God and love Him more, knowing that He is close to us during these times? Will we allow Him to comfort us and help us make it through these times, until we are healed and whole once again? Or, will we allow our brokenness to make us bitter, angry, and to live in despair and self-pity? The Life Application Study Bible says this: "we often wish we could escape troubles--the pain of grief, loss, sorrow, and failure. But God promises to be "close to the brokenhearted"; to be our source of power, courage, and wisdom, helping us through our problems. When trouble strikes, we should not get frustrated or angry with God. Instead, we should admit that we need His help and thank Him for being by our side."
Next, "heart." The heart is an organ that circulates the blood. It is the vital center of one's being, emotions and sensibilities. The Bible says that "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks." (Luke 6:45) Perhaps during those times when we feel our hearts have been broken, we should open our mouths and confess our pain to our God--we can worship Him and thank Him for being right there with us. Psalm 34:17 says that "when the righteous cry out, the Lord hears them and delivers them from all of their troubles," even that of a broken heart.
So, BE ENCOURAGED today. If you are brokenhearted, GOD IS WITH YOU. You are NOT alone. God is SITTING WITH YOU, COMFORTING YOU, and BOTTLING EVERY TEAR that falls from your eyes. That's how much He LOVES YOU and CARES FOR YOU. His promise to you today is that He WILL bring HEALING and RESTORATION back into your life. The pieces of your broken heart WILL be mended. Just continue to LOVE and WORSHIP Him and HE WILL DO IT!
God Bless!
