Be True to YOU! By Jennifer F. Pulliam
There is a famous line written by William Shakespeare in the play "Hamlet" which says: "To thine own self be true." We must be true to our own hearts if we want to enjoy life. Each day we are required to make choices.
Those choices then, can turn around and make or break us. Ultimately, each one of us is responsible and accountable for the decisions concerning our lives. Therefore, we must choose to follow what is in our own hearts, not what is in someone else's. Stay with me...because I feel this is such an important point. Now, we all from time to time need to seek Godly counsel, wise counsel from someone who is trustworthy and who has our best interest at heart. However, many times the need for acceptance and approval drives us to ask for (and follow) advice from those who may not even be qualified to give us advice. NEWSFLASH!: Be careful who you allow to speak into and over your life! Trust me, you cannot afford to let other people control or direct the course of your life. Don't allow anyone's opinions, expectations, approvals or disapprovals keep you from following your path to greatness.
When you are true to yourself and to who God has called you to be, your decisions will be misunderstood and no, everybody won't be pleased...but IF you are true to yourself and IF God be pleased, nothing else matters! The Apostle Paul says it best in Galatians 1:10 [paraphrased] "If I try to please people instead of God then I allow my destiny to be stolen from me and God would not be using me the way He desires to use me." WOW!
You will be the only one who will stand before God to give an account of your own life. It's okay to LISTEN to the advice of others, but DISCERN what you hear them say WITH GOD'S WORD and with what He has spoken to your heart. Then, allow the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions and BE FOREVER TRUE TO YOU! Blessings and Peace!
